Hall-Dyer House Update

The corner of Main Street and Great Hill Road may have seemed quiet all winter, but renovation has been progressing inside the Hall-Dyer House, future home of the Tamworth History Center. While this work is only Phase 1 of three planned renovation phases, this summer we will open several ground-floor rooms, part-time, to help celebrate the Town’s 250th.

A Profitable Philanthropy
Helen Albee and the Abnakee Rug Industry of Chocorua

Wednesday, June 29 at 7:00 pm

Presented by Cynthia Melendy
at the Cook Memorial Library

Historian Melendy will share her research on this turn-of-the-20th-century endeavor that employed local women, and how it relates to the founding of Sandwich Home Industries and The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. Examples of Abnakee and contemporary hooked rugs will be on display.

The Tamworth History Center will co-sponsor this Cook Library program, and provide the refreshments to follow.

Upcoming Events

THC regrets that we didn’t present a program in May. All hands were busy with the renovation and our strategic planning process. We look forward to doing better this summer - please stay tuned!

For the summer, THC is looking at a program on Tamworth’s earliest people,
another on the history of our town’s Campgrounds, and more.

And we’ll be inviting the town to visit our new History Center when it opens!

News

Tamworth celebrates its 250th Anniversary in 2016!

The 250th Anniversary Steering Committee has announced a year-long celebration: October 14, 2015 to October 14, 2016.

THS has a number of 250th projects in mind. We want to collaborate with the Cook Library to expand our oral history collection capacities and capture individual recollections for all to enjoy. We will mount mini displays and post mini-histories around town, and do local history projects with Tamworth schoolchildren.

It is also our goal to have at least two rooms at the Hall-Dyer House History Center open to the public by some point in 2016.
